ORA-01261: Parameter db_recovery_file_dest destination string cannot be translated

Error:
ORA-01261: Parameter db_recovery_file_dest destination string cannot be translated.
ORA-01262: Stat failed on a file destination directory.
ORA-01261: Parameter db_recovery_file_dest

Solution:

  • Open Pfile

        check db_recovery_file_dest parameter in pfile.

  • SQL> show parameter db_recovery_file_dest
    NAME                         TYPE             VALUE
    -----------------------     -----------    --------------
    db_recovery_file_dest        string            0
    db_recovery_file_dest_size   big integer       0
  • If  db_recovery_file_dest  parameter is not set to destination string ( for example :/u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_ area) as Pfile then first create directory on server level.
    !mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area
  • And set parameter using below command.
    SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size=10G;
    System altered.
    SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest='/u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area';
    System altered.
    SQL> show parameter db_recovery_file_dest
    NAME                         TYPE        VALUE
    -----------------------     ----------- ------------------------------
    db_recovery_file_dest        string      /u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area
    db_recovery_file_dest_size   big integer  10G
